Ceremony to mark the start of construction of new Woodstock school and child care centre
On May 16, the community will gather to celebrate the start of construction of a new elementary school and child care centre in north Woodstock.
The ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the construction site on 717 Knights Lane, Woodstock (west corner of Sobeski Avenue and Knights Lane).
Municipal leaders and local members of parliament will join project participants and Thames Valley District School Board representatives at the ceremony.
Future students of the school will also participate in the event.
A photo opportunity will take place near the end of the ceremony.
“This ceremony represents another exciting step forward to welcoming Oxford County students and families to the new Woodstock school and child care centre,” said Director of Education Mark Fisher. “Once again, I want to thank Trustees for their strong advocacy and commend Thames Valley staff for their dedication to addressing rising enrolment throughout the district. This truly was a group effort, and it will be great to see the community come together in celebration.”
“Thames Valley’s Board of Trustees is excited to join the community in celebrating the start of construction for this new school and child care centre,” said Thames Valley Chair Beth Mai. “We believe this important project will greatly benefit Oxford County families and support the Board in its commitment to provide much needed learning spaces in our growing communities. Thank you to our provincial, local and community partners for working collaboratively to address community needs as quickly as possible.”
“Our government is more than doubling the funding to build new schools, which represents the single largest investment in school building in Ontario history,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. “We are stepping up with a massive investment to build the homes, schools, and communities our province needs, and to ensure children have access to state-of-the-art schools close to home that give them real life and job skills to succeed in the future. I want to reiterate my thanks to MPP Ernie Hardeman for his relentless advocacy for local families.”
“This new school will be a welcome addition to north Woodstock,” said Ernie Hardeman, MPP for Oxford. “I am excited to see this project get underway. My constituents and I are looking forward to seeing this new facility develop during the construction process.”
"Oxford County welcomes the additional child care spaces planned to get started in the near future to provide much needed spaces and improve access to child care in Oxford County. Child care within schools provide opportunities for partnerships and seamless transition for children into school-age education. Oxford County is pleased with the investment by the Province in licensed school based child care in the County," said Kelly Black, Oxford CMSM.
